Epidemiological data on the relation between overweight and nutrient deficiency

Dietary excess and nutrient deficiency may coincide both in populations and individuals. This statement which may be surprising at first glance is illustrated by four topics: nutrient deficiency in obese subjects; weight-reducing diets, restrained eating and micronutrient intake; eating disorders in the light of the obesity epidemic; normal weight and micronutrient intake.

It becomes obvious that the growing incidence of overweight and obesity is associated with various changes in nutritional behaviour which may increase the risk of insufficient nutrient intake in individuals with overweight and in those with normal weight.
